Asuka defeats Emma (with Dana Brooke)
The historic broadcast began with women’s action, as the rivalry between Asuka and Emma reached its boiling point. Dana’s meddling led to her being ejected from ringside, and Emma tried to capitalize by grabbing the belt that belonged to Dana and going after Asuka, but she ran straight into a spinning kick that knocked Emma out cold and earned Asuka the victory.

The pressure to perform is felt throughout the NXT roster on the night of the card. Dana Brooke, set to face Asuka, refuses to sit out the card, despite suffering a pectoral injury in training. With her mother in attendance, Brooke fights through the pain, and though she doesn’t walk away with the win, the experience puts her over the moon. “I felt amazing,” Brooke tells the WWE Breaking Ground cameras.

Though Zayn is not cleared in time for NXT TakeOver, Dana Brooke is, even after hurting her upper body during in-ring practice. The self-proclaimed “Total Diva” may be less than 100% physically, but she won’t let that stop her from competing at the live TakeOver special against Asuka. Hours before the card gets underway, she and Jason Jordan sit in the bleachers and reflect on how far they’ve come. Both are excited, but anxious. Dana is readying to face her biggest test yet, while Jordan is stressed that he and partner Chad Gable might not get their custom track suits delivered in time for their TakeOver debut. (Spoiler, they don’t.)

Dana Brooke, Billie Kay, and a friend workout in a park. Dana jokes that the cops are coming to get them because they are “too hot”. The three do some routines led by Dana Brooke. Dana explains that you need to be on your game 24/7, working hard, and showing dedication. She mentions her past as a gymnist and how she enjoys sports. Dana says she is taking Billie under her wing and that she always comes to her for advice. The three always have fun she says as the scene closes with her doing push-ups.

NXT made headlines with its signing of Asuka, a legend of Japanese women’s wrestling, in the fall. Her international acclaim — never mind her hard kicks and vicious submissions — intimidate some of the less experienced women at the Performance Center. Dana explains that Asuka’s signing has brought a lot of different thoughts to the Divas locker room and the Divas think she is going to make it before them. Dana, on the other hand, is inspired by Asuka’s presence, and sees it as a chance to prove herself because of the motivation she gives her. She mentions that her kicks are very hard and her arm submissions are badass but she doesn’t take it as a threat, she sees it as an opportunity. The two are seen training in the ring, Dana keeping up with all of Asuka’s strikes. But when a hard knockdown from Asuka sends Dana crumbling to the mat at the close of Breaking Ground, the mood changes drastically as Dana is teary eyed explaining the pain.

Mojo Rawley and Dana Brooke drive to the next show. Mojo explains that him and Dana have always been buddies and that Dana is a very positive and uplifting person. Dana says the two need to get out on the dance floor and Mojo says it’s good cardio. Dana says Mojo brings out the crazier side in her. Zack gives his thoughts on Mojo Rawley and says how they are different and he is more mature. Dana and Mojo talk about the girl in the car beside them as Mojo hits on her. Dana asks if Mojo and Zack are friends outside of work and Mojo says they are the same like how they are on TV. Mojo is frustrated that Zack is on the main roster so the team is not consistent on events.

Dana Brooke said that drive and determination could control her destiny, and she hasn’t given up after a year and a half in NXT. Sara Amato said Dana was determined to get it right no matter what. Dana finally gets the move down with Nia Jax.

Departing their home base of Florida, the NXT Superstars and Divas board planes and head to the first leg of their tour in Houston. Upon landing, NXT’s surging popularity in the state is apparent, as fans gather at the airport terminal to capture photos and get autographs. Apollo Crews has no problem indulging such requests; having spent 10 years toiling on the independent circuit, the NXT newcomer relishes the spotlight he’s earned during his short time in NXT.

More sightseeing is on tap as the tour heads to its final city, San Antonio. Dana Brooke and Jason Jordan take a selfie before joining Baron Corbin, Apollo Crews, Bayley, Tyler Breeze, and Carmella. The Superstars are at Alamo, where they debate the facts of the historic battle that took place there.

Immaturity is not a problem for Dana Brooke, NXT’s self-proclaimed “Total Diva” and one of the women’s division’s top competitors. A mean girl through and through, the former gymnast spends all hours of the day improving her standing in the Performance Center, whether that means paying extra attention to her ring appearance or working extra hard inside the gym.

Despite having all the attributes necessary to become a breakthrough Diva, Dana has plateaued in her training, NXT Assistant Head Coach Sara Amato cautions. As Amato and fellow Divas Coach Sarah Stock lead a class of women through a particularly challenging maneuver, the laser-focused Dana stumbles where several of her peers excel. A subsequent attempt to learn the maneuver goes even worse, leaving Dana crumpled on the mat and a concerned classmate asking, “Are you OK?”

Tom Phillips is with Apollo Crews. Apollo says it is an honor to be part of such a historical show. Dana Brooke and Emma stop by and she says that she is sick of the new NXT talent getting all of the attention. Emma agrees. Dana says she thought they showed Asuka that playtime is over. Apollo laughs and he says that him and Asuka are new but Dana is taking her too lightly. He says that Dana is in for a very rough night.

Lita says that Dana will need to tone it down or she could get injured. Corey says it is going to be like Dana running into a wall when she faces Asuka. Corey says that he has watched Asuka on the internet. Lita says the Japanese style is more physical. If you are not prepared, it can rattle your confidence. If Dana cannot pull it together, it could get rough for her. Byron suggests that maybe Dana is playing mind games with Asuka and that she will surprise the world.
